The Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, “NAO” for short, is a descendant of the Nugget Department Store. The Nugget Department Store was opened in 1974 by Bill Flint and a group of local investors and was the first store in the Nugget Mall located in the Mendenhall Valley of Juneau Alaska. In 1987 when the department store closed, the men’s department was wheeled down the hall to NAO’s current location and became the Nugget Men’s Store. Over the years NAO has shed the dress shirts, ties and slacks associated with its department store past and evolved into a store dedicated to the men, women and kid’s of Southeast Alaska that spend a lot of time working and/or playing outdoors. NAO carries a huge assortment of raingear, from industrial strength to the latest high tech jackets, footwear from Xtratuf boots to Dansko clogs, a large variety of outerwear, work and outdoor clothing, men’s and women’s sportswear as well as a section devoted to running. We also carry outdoor gear including packs and tents. NAO is still owned by local investors including Bill’s son Ron who manages the store with the help of his team. Regardless of the goods offered, Nugget still prides itself on it’s selection of quality clothing and footwear fine tuned for Southeast Alaska offered at fair prices and delivered with outstanding customer service.
